Shown Here:Criminal Justice Reform Act - Authorizes the Administrator of the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration to make grants to and to enter into contracts with States and, where appropriate, with localities for the conduct of demonstration projects designed to test the effectiveness of comprehensive criminal justice reforms.
States that a demonstration project assisted under this Act may involve the testing of the following comprehensive criminal justice reforms: (1) programs related to the standards, training, education and compensation of law enforcement personnel (2) programs related to assuring a speedy trial, (3) programs related to the standards, equipment, treatment, and other aspects of correctional instructions, (4) programs relating to studies for the consolidation of law enforcement agencies, and (5) programs related to studies on the application of the criminal laws in specified areas.
Provides guidelines for the submission of State plans. Provides that the Federal share shall be 75 percent of the cost of the project. Authorizes such appropriations as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of this Act.
